Violet, the Part-Time Cat, was not having a good day.
The job she had been hoping to get had fallen through. OK, it had been something of a longshot, but Lair Legion Secretary had to be better than some of her other jobs. At least in a room full of superheroes she wouldn't have looked that much of a misfit.
Ha! Beaten to the job by a Barbie Doll! - It was easy to see how that girl got the post. It wasn't fair - she was way cuter than that...
That line of thought had been curtailed rather sharply when she was chased up a tree by some rabid out-of-control rottweiler. It didn't help that the owner was one of those my-doggie-is-so-intelligent-look-it-understands-everything-i-say idiots!!!
Little encounters like this really didn't do her cynophobia any good.
Oh well. she could try going for that waitressing job down at Masamune's. As long as they didn't call her Haru again. And as long as she could tolerate the singing. And as long as the customers with special interests kept their hands to themselves. And...
She slumped her shoulders and sighed. Somewhere, far in the distance, a stone bell rang a single, dolorous tone. How could her day get any worse?
There are some phrases you should never utter in the Parodyverse. "Nothing can stop me now!" is a popular one amongst supervillains. There are also some questions that you should never even think, let alone ask. There is always some twisted deity around to give you a practical answer.
Kawaii Nekomusume!!!
Violet half-turned to see a vast amorphous terrifying tentacled mass bearing down on her. Her immediate - and under the circumstances, quite appropriate - reaction was to flee down the path, tail flying, limbs flying, tears copiously streaming from her eyes, crying "What did I doooo to deserve this!".
She didn't look back, and so missed the sight of a Shoggoth being thwacked with a gnarled wooden staff, and ending up in a heap with two pieces of sticking plaster forming an incongruous X on it's side.
"Behave!", said Ebony, firmly.
In the mean time, Violet ran as fast as she could, in the hope that she could escape the Lair Mansion before anything else happened.
